But first why this competition?

This step by CBSE is focused towards making that connect between the bookish and the practical knowledge in Mathematics. CBSE wants its children to know how to apply what they learn.

Mathematics is easily the most dreaded subject and we see that constantly while teaching maths to 8th-10th standard kids at Kohbee.

CBSE has taken multiple steps in 2019 to reduce the burden that a child might feel due to mathematics.

In early 2019, it announced that children who fail to attempt the “standard” maths exams, will be eligible to give a slightly easier “basic” maths exams, so they could clear the boards. Although, this comes with a catch that if you either shift to “basic” maths or opt for “basic” maths paper, you will no longer be able to take maths as a senior secondary subject.

And now back to the main topic. The Aryabhatta Ganit Challenge 2020 is on right now and you can read all about it here.

All CBSE affiliated schools could register their 8th-10th standard students in this challenge and 5457 schools have taken this opportunity up.

To see whether students can apply mathematics in daily life, CBSE will test students in the following subjects:

(i) Application of Mathematics in daily life (20 marks)
1. Change and relationships
2. Space and Shape
3. Quantity
4. Uncertainty and data

(ii) Joy of Mathematics Learning (20 marks)
